Golf in the Sun all year round!

High season in Spain and Portugal is July and August, but as these months are very hot, golfing season is October through April. So golfers benefit from lower priced accommodation and car hire during the best times for golf. Low season in Morocco is July and August.

For golf, April and May are hot, but not unbearably so, as are September and October. November to March are cooler -- don't expect to get a deep tan -- and these months can also see some rain. In June, July and August, do not plan to golf in the midday sun. Later or earlier tee times are best. August is the busiest month in Portugal and Spain, as this is when the people from the north take their holidays and head to the coast.

Because of the hot temperatures (especially in summer months) and the fact that many of the golf courses are quite hilly, buggies are common on the golf courses, and Monte Mayor, for instance, insists that all golfers use a buggy. (The cost of one at that course is included in the green fee.) However, some golf clubs do not allow buggies on the fairways, and this means that some golfers spend as much time walking with a buggy as without one. It is recommended that you find out if golf buggies are allowed on the fairways before deciding on using one.

The chart at the right gives average monthly temperatures, but does not show the range of temperatures throughout the day. We suggest packing a sweater even in the summer months as it can cool down in the evenings, especially if you are by the sea.

Golfers are reminded that even though you are in an area famous for sun, it sometimes rains.Pack rain gear in your golf bag. Hopefully, you will not have to use it, but if you do, you’ll be thankful it’s there. If you leave the course because of rain, in most cases, you will forfeit your green fee, unless the course has been closed due to dangerous weather conditions. If you want to rearrange your golf due to rain or other bad weather conditions, some golf courses may be willing to accommodate you, subject to available tee times.

And remember... there is plenty for non-golfers to do all year round -- from tennis to boating to sightseeing to just walking on the beach!
