Practice Facility: The location of the Fazio designed practice facility at the Waterville House takes better advantage of an underutilized piece of ground with some astounding views. The most proximate amenity to the House is a new putting green stretching panoramically beyond the large health facility windows. The green itself offers golfers all ranges of putts on a consistent surface and views of the ocean and surrounding hills. Enclosed by a hedge and walls the green is afforded some succor from frequent wind gusts, lengthening the playing season.
Short Game Area: The Short Game Area in the next field over offers uninterrupted views to the sea. A smallish green is surrounded with various slopes supporting many shot types. Two bunkers: one greenside, one 20 yards out, punctuate the undulating space. Shot lengths from bump and run to 80+ yard approach shots are accommodated with both level and sloping lies.
Nearby: Waterville House sits aside one of Ireland’s most famous angling areas – the Lough Currane Fishery and the Weir at Butlers Pool. The Weir is a part of Ireland’s Salmon Research Program, supplying critical fish migration data. The season begins January 17th with springers running March through May and grilse and seatrout May through September. Wet fly on 10' rod with 8 line wt. is the norm at the pool, however experienced ghillies are available to fish the entire system.
