Golf at St Andrews

Kingsbarns

Although this is the only links course at St Andrews built this century, Kingsbarns’ golf origins date back to 1793. The site has ideal conditions for links turf to flourish amid interesting natural terrain. This unique links course in East Fife has sandy soils, undulating ridges and hollows, the Cambo burn running into the sea, and is set immediately against the rugged coastline of the North Sea. Opened June 2000, it has since rocketed up in the world rankings.

St Andrews Links Trust Golf Courses:

Old Course (pictured at top)

Golf was first played here around 1400 AD and the Old Course is renowned as the Home of Golf. The Old Course has played host to the greatest golfers in the world and many of golfŐs most dramatic moments. Tiger Woods won the Open Championship here in 2000. The greens (some of which are shared) are always in great shape and there are 117 pot bunkers to deal with. Handicap certificate - minimum 24 men, 36 ladies required. Soft spikes only. Fourballs expected to complete the course in 3 hrs 57 mins.
Open from 7 am except in summer when it opens at 6.30 am (until August 31)Closed Sundays.

Because it is the dream of most golfers to play the Old Course, it is very difficult to get on. We can reserve tee times for you up to 2 years in advance. Tee times for the following year are decided in September, the year before play. If you cannot book this far in advance, singles can get lucky by turning up and joining another group. As well, you can enter your name with the caddymaster in the traditional ballot by 2pm the day before you want to play. (Over 50% of starting times are decided this way). We can confirm times for singles from 2 years to one month in advance.
