The area: The development of Sotogrande is a large residential estate which attracts visitors from Seville and Madrid as well as South American polo players and professional golfers. Sporting facilities include world-class polo fields and Valderrama golf course, host to the World Championships of Golf in 1999 and 2000 and the Ryder Cup in 1997. Besides, Valderrama, there are a number of other golf courses close by. Sotogrande marina is home to numerous good restaurants, both indoor and out, and Sotogrande has watersports, sailing, tennis, shops, banks, hairdressers, coffee shop and yacht charter. On Sunday there is an arts and crafts open-air market held at the marina. It is centrally located for those wishing a day trip to Marbella, the white villages, or Gibraltar.
