Santo da Serra Golf Club

Madeira Island

The 27 hole Santo da Serra Golf Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones. All holes offer spectacular views of the mountains, valleys and Madeira’s dramatic coastline and there are also views to the islands of Desertas and Porto Santo. Situated in a natural setting, the location is unspoilt and free from buildings and homes. In 2001 Seve Ballesteros described the course as ”fantastic, the clubhouse very beautiful, the food even better and the caring phenominal.”

Feature holes include the 4th par 3 (185 m) which is played over a revine with a medium to long iron, to a shallow green well defined by two bunkers, one at the front and one at the rear. As well as being technically challenging, the hole boasts a spectacular view of the Madeira landscape. The 11th hole (par 5, 523) is the most beautiful hole due to the lake running along the lefthand side. The par 4 (422m)13th hole has the most difficult tee shot on the course. It is a dogleg right and the fairway slopes steeply right. The second shot is a medium to short iron into a green which will require careful reading. The 16th hole (par 5, 508 m) is beautiful but difficult. This is played along a long uphill 2-tiered fairway, leading to a short approach shot into a very difficult elevated green.
