Penina Golf Club Portimão, Algarve, Portugal Opened in 1966, and designed by Sir Henry Cotton, Penina Golf Championship Course was the first golf course built in the Algarve. The Championship course has been host to the Portuguese Open 8 times (including 1999 and 2000) as well as the European Seniors Match Play Championship. Henry Cotton Championship Course Originally built on rice paddies, the 6439 metre long course is generally quite flat, and is set amongst mature trees and shrubs, with each of the fairways lined with tall trees. As well, drainage ditches help to define the fairways, and in some places act as tricky water hazards. There is only one par 5 on the front nine, with four on the back.

Hcp 28M, 36 L; soft spikes only Resort Course The Resort Course is a 9 hole par 35. It has all of the characteristics of the Championship course with flat, tree lined fairways. 9 holes, Par 35.
Soft spikes only Academy Course The Academy Course is a 9 hole par 30 executive course. 9 holes, Par 30, 1851 metres. Soft spikes only. Pro Shop, Restaurant and Bar, Hotel, lessons (PGA qualified professional), video analysis; Rental Clubs, Trolleys, Buggies available Practice Facilities: Driving range offers 12 covered practice bays. Recent improvements (2008) include widening of driving range and addition of target greens, new buggy paths and buggy parking areas, a new bridge. The practice facilities have been raised to ensure maximum drainage. The entire area was overseeded and a new irrigation system put in place. New putting green, new chipping green, new practice bunkder. Capacity to lodge an average of 70 players. Reduced rates for Course Master clients on all three courses.
