Murrayfield Golf Club

Edinburgh, Scotland

Located right in central Edinburgh, Murrayfield Golf Club was started in 1896 and was part of the explosion of interest in golf at the end of the 19th century which saw Edinburgh as home to more golf clubs than anywhere else in the country. Originally 12 holes, it was expanded to 18 in 1898. In 1904 Harry Vardon and James Braid played an exhibition match that attracted thousands and did much to seal its early reputation.
