Pestana Dom João II, Villas & Beach Resort is composed by Pestana D. João II Hotel, 32 Villas and 20 Apartments. The Dom João II Hotel has 5 floors and 3 lifts, first opened in 1972 and renovated in 2008; the Alvor Atlantic Apartments (pictured at right) has 11 floors and 2 lifts, first opened in 1968 and totally renovated in 2008. The resort is surrounded by gardens and overlooks Alvor beach which stretches several kilometres to the west. It is nearby the Alvor river estuary which harbours one of Portugal’s most valued bird sanctuaries and also close to the fishing village of Alvor where there are numerous bars and restaurants and also the Algarve’s largest windsurfing centre is located nearby.
